Driving Under the Influence Program

On March 6, 2020, the Governor issued Executive Order 2020-215, declaring a state of emergency pursuant to his power under the Kentucky Constitution and KRS Chapter 39A regarding COVID-19, a mild to severe respiratory disease that can result in death.
In recognition of that order and the current number of COVID-19 cases, we are taking necessary steps to protect the health of our fellow Kentuckians by engaging in "social distancing" and limiting person-to-person contact in the workplace.
As a result, no "PRI Driving Unimpaired 20-Hour New Instructor Certification Training" or "KY DUI Assessment Instrument Training" courses will be held until later in 2021.
If you have questions, please contact Rae Williams at rae.williams@ky.gov.
Kentucky Revised Statute 189A.040(5) requires all DUI services to be received in an alcohol or substance abuse education or treatment program or facility that is licensed, regulated, and monitored by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. Therefore, Kentucky will not accept online DUI course completions. Access the Provider Directory link in Related Links to identify the licensed, state-certified DUI provider(s) in your county.
Program Description
The Driving Under the Influence Program is responsible for monitoring and regulating the statewide network of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) programs that are licensed and certified to provide alcohol and other drug assessments, education and treatment services to persons convicted of DUI.
The program operates under the authority of administrative regulation 908 KAR 1:310, in accordance with the provisions of Kentucky Revised Statute 189A00 (see Related Links).
DUI Information
- DUI Penalties and Requirements. This page contains a summary of the DUI penalties and requirements outlined in KRS Chapter 189A00.
- DUI Program Coordinators. Here you will find a map showing DUI program regions and contact information for the regions' coordinators.
- DUI Directory. The online Provider Directory (also in Related Links) will display a list of DUI programs licensed and certified by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services to provide alcohol and other drug abuse services to individuals convicted of Driving Under the Influence, pursuant to KRS Chapter 189A00 (see Related Links).
Other licensed treatment programs in the state provide alcohol or other drug abuse treatment. However, if a program is not listed in our directory, the program is not certified to conduct DUI assessments or education. The only programs in Kentucky certified to conduct DUI assessments and education in order to have driving privileges reinstated are listed in the Provider Directory.
